The Atlanta Grade School Friends (a 501(c)3 organization) is restoring the school on Miller Street that from 1936 to 1974 provided a safe and welcoming environment for Atlanta's children and their dedicated teachers. The Atlanta Grade School Friends has set a goal of raising $1.5 million by the end of 2006. Your tax deductible contribution may be pledged and paid annually over five years.
Why Save Atlanta's Oldest School Building? The 1936 building is built to last - after rehabilitation, it will stand longer than new buildings constructed today. Its preservation will be tangible evidence of Atlanta's respect for education. Its close proximity to downtown Atlanta will help revitalize the area. Heritage tourists will visit the school, improving Atlanta's economy. Activities in the school will be a benefit to area residents. The building will provide an Atlanta setting for daytime and evening classes of Texarkana College.
